We are passionate about our art and our gallery. We first opened our doors in 2008 in Truchas, New Mexico, but as soon as this lovely old adobe building became available in Peñasco we moved in!
It has been a labour of love on many fronts: the old building was neglected and beginning to melt back into the soil it was built from, the electrical system was 'iffy', and there was no water to the building. It took us well over a year to get it into shape to open up the front room.
Stage two was putting up an internal wall to create a separate fibre studio where TDLT, a local weaving group, set up looms to weave and sell beautiful hand made rugs and other weavings for the home. After that it became the gallery room for Gaucho Fibres where Lise and a few talented artist show their fibre art and goods.
We meant from the very beginning to provide a place where some of the outstanding local artists could show and sell their work without paying high gallery commission rates. We continue that intention today
Gaucho Blue has been likened to 'New York on the High Road' by so many visitors who are pleasantly surprised to find quality, edgy, and unique art in a rural location, that it's tempting to rename it, but we like our name!
Come visit us here online - and also in our physical gallery, and be surprised by the ever-changing and stimulating work on show.
